Leave the city and meet me on the hills for a pleasant, cultural and funny day across one of the most interesting places around Florence: Fiesole!
Lying on a beautiful tuscan countryside, Fiesole is just 20 minutes away from Florence and it offers many attractions for curious travelers, art lovers and everybody interested to experience a less touristy part of Tuscany just behind the corner.
With its narrow roads between old walls hiding beautiful gardens, its craft artistic shops, the small and genuine restaurants and some nice places for enjoying a glass of wine or an Aperitivo, Fiesole is just a pleasant place where to spend a day far from the crowd of the city.
And at the same time is a coffer of art and history, beacuse here you can find here everything that made famous Florence and Tuscany all over the world: Etruscans, Romans, medieval art, Renaissance and contemporary art as well.
Fiesole is first of all a jump into the past: imagine a walk through a roman theatre overlooking the peaceful countryside of Tuscany, covered by olive trees and ornated by white farm houses and dark tall cypress trees. Here you can learn about the ancient Etruscan population which created this city first.
So I’ll guide you to the archaeological park where, beside the great theatre, you will see what remains from the Roman and Etruscan period: the roman Spa, the temples, and the archaeological museum with a great collection of bronzes, vases, sculptures and curiosities.
We’ll wander about the mysterious symbols inside of the romanesque Duomo: the Saint Romolo Cathedral, so rich of art and history! It will be an immersion in the history of art, surrounded by anecdotes and stories of the characters who plowed this place.
Then we’ll reach the highest point of the hill to enjoy the spectacular view of Florence and silently immerse ourselves into the Franciscan convent, an island of peace and tranquility.
Purified and lightened, we will be ready for enjoying the crispy life of Fiesole! Let’s enjoy a glass of local wine or a good Aperitivo by the main square, for to know us better and recovering our energies after such a beautiful walk!
