Marco
About
My name is Marco Mocellin. I am a licensed tour guide based in Florence, where I studied Art History more than twenty years ago. Since then, Florence and Tuscany have become less a destination than a landscape I continue to explore every day.
Museums, churches, gardens and villages are part of that landscape, but so are vineyards, little tabernacles, cypress trees, olive groves, old stone walls and the changing light of the seasons. They all contribute to the same cultural world.
Rather than collecting information, I have always been interested in returning to places. Looking again. Paying attention to what changes when we slow down.
My work
Alongside private guiding, I teach art history for international schools and cultural institutions in Florence, designing courses, lectures and educational programmes for students and lifelong learners.
My work brings together Renaissance art, gardens, mythology, literature, philosophy and landscape, always beginning with direct observation. Images are never isolated objects. They belong to places, and places continue to shape the way we understand them.
GeniusLooci
GeniusLooci is the place where all these paths meet.
Online courses, private walks, public talks, writing and visual research are different forms of the same practice: creating opportunities to encounter places with greater attention and curiosity.
I don’t think culture is something we consume. I believe it is something we participate in.
